The SHIROIYA HOTEL is a renovated and reimagined traditional Japanese inn, with a 300-year history. World-renowned architect Sou Fujimoto designed the two buildings to blend the old and new. Don’t miss the BAR MATCHA-TEI, designed by Hiroshi Sugimoto and architect Tomoyuki Sakakida of New Material Research Laboratory.

Shiroiya Hotel is comprised of two striking buildings. The Heritage Tower, with its striking exposed concrete atrium, conveys the history of the original building. The Green Tower is a new structure, inspired by the grassy banks of the old Tone River, and is filled with greenery. These two opposing elements blend in with their surroundings to create a space that is typical of Fujimoto’s perceptive work.

Discover MATCHA-TEI, a discreet bar tucked away in the Green Tower, designed by the architectural firm New Material Research Laboratory, founded by contemporary artist Hiroshi Sugimoto and architect Tomoyuki Sakakida. The striking space features a solid cedar counter, whose grain resembles the spreading ripples of water, and beautiful laminated glass, meticulously crafted by artisans.
